The Ultimate Role-Players Brainstorm!!
« on: May 02, 2012, 04:07:40 am »
Here I want to discuss different ideas and games possible on a role-playing map. This thread is not for the ones of the light RP nature. We want to develop unique ideas, sometimes simple, sometimes complex. I am also open to redefining the most commonly played games and maps other servers offer. Lets see the ideas flowing and share an discuss the most appealing ones to you.

Just to get things started I will list off some of the ideas floating around now.

- Asteroids! Explorations. Astro-miners live out the daily grind in a life above Neptune. Can you rise in the ranks of the company and one day become CEO. Asteroids! offers space travel via portals where players discover what lies beneath their quest for diamonds.

- The 5 Guilds of the high seas. Colonists arrive in a world dominated by exploitation and exploration. A new land is found far away from civilized life. Beware, for some have gone off on their own and have become thieves and pirates. Pvp events will feature ship to ship battle!!

- The Solstice of Midnight. The story of the old empire gone into disrepair. Once the rulers of Anduria, the empire fades into darkness as the rise of undead plague the lands. A massive army that is reminiscent of the glory days is assembled to fight this plague. Can the kingdom of Sonnia rise once again? Will they restore the light into darkness? This map will be made as a multiplayer adventure map. Using events and carefully crafted dungeons to lead the players into the dark corners of their lands.

- Iron Horse. Is the story of a new time of wondrous machinery and exploration. The barons of industry have opened up a new land to the empire. The resources are plenty and the lands are vast. The only problem it is already inhabited. The people of the old ways claim these lands to be sacred. Can the old ways survive the charge of the Iron Horse?

- Element Rising. Tribes following Several different gods are led into a new existence in a strange land. They follow their gods in the pursuit of enlightenment and build great monuments into the heavens. What tribe will create the most massive structure?

- The Great Rift. A huge rift in the earth over 150 meters high is the center of a thriving forest full of life. The local tribes revolve around an annual race into the rift. Who will bring the shaman the egg of an enderdragon and bring his tribe honor and respect of the people.

I quite like the 'Iron Horse', 'Solstice of Midnight' and 'Element Rising' idea. You could even combine those.

One faction or tribe chooses technology over all else ( Iron Horse ), another one chooses nature, the elements ( Element Rising )and the last one is perhaps a magical, religious or even 'midnight' faction ( Solstice of Midnight ).

Also, hi :D

Hmm we could possibly combine Iron Horse,Asteroids, and 5 Guilds. Different companies vying for claims on a planet rich of natural resources. The locals and the other companies serve as obstacles to each guild. However this seems to remind me a bit too much of Dune. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(novel)) Whereas the companies are the equivalent of the Harkonnens and the Atreides and the locals are the Arrakeen.

I loved Dune. I really enjoy the idea of a colonial theme though, seeing that not many RP's are set during that time. They always seem to hover about medieval or future time periods. I think a colonial theme would have a bunch of new ideas to work with. Not to mention there were still vast empires with imperialistic polices back then so it could possibly keep the same Kingdomey feel of medieval RPs. Ill think more about this and present it later.

Sounds good, lets mix up imperialism, and the age of exploration ((spoiler alert)) PoK is now IoK islands of Kalagdor. And they are making the same game we would be... -derp-

Ok, i thought of another idea. It still has the colonial era but there's a slight twist.

Setting/plot: Its is the mid 1700s.Humanity's greed has consumed all natural resources that lie upon the surface of the world.  The lakes and rivers have gone dry,the forests and jungles are now barren grasslands. Wood and water are now more precious than gold. There was nowhere for humans to go but down.  The surface cities are now ghost towns that were picked clean of everything that can be salvaged for wood. The new countries have built extensive tunnel networks and underground cities to avoid the rain which has become so toxic due to the massive amount of pollution. In these underground cities, the kingdoms have built small underground groves with the few remaining saplings left. The water supply is maintained only by finding underground springs. The age of exploration has filled in the corners of the map but none dare to risk the surface world's perils.

I really like the sounds of The Great Rift, I look at it as a great opportunity for an adventure map, aimed for around 5 people, each belonging to a different tribe that lives around this Rift. To obtain the Ender Egg from the centre of the Rift the players would have to complete tasks or dungeons allowing them to progress through the Rift, the player to complete the tasks / dungeons first would claim the Ender Egg and win making their tribe the better. Only thing being that I don't think this would be all that Rp intensive if the players are all scattered around the Rift working on their own, could potentially fix this by opening up the player limit to allow for more members of a tribe and have multi player dungeons requiring teamwork to get through. Looking at your original comment of "Games" I think if combined with another idea such as the 5 Guilds of the High Seas or Element Rising where lots of players are working together to better their Tribe, then this Great Rift would be  great Event that happens every so often, the tribes work together to get to the Ender Egg and the Tribe that Holds the Ender Egg would receive bonuses / blessings from their deities allowing them to enhance their village or in the Element Rising case build a better structure to achieve enlightenment. Just my initial thoughts after reading over the thread.

Oh and Hello to all :D <---Newb

Yeah I totally agree Streagar!! I do think it should be an event, we can even change the course each time. Alot of people have been liking the 5 guild idea. The only problem I have with it, I'm helping with a pirate/royal colonist rpg. Conflict of interest ya know.

I have been looking into my old dnd notebooks, and looking over all the dungeons I made for the pen & paper version of this game. Also I was noticing the recent asweinian trend towards that server. I was wondering if this rpg, would be the rpg I could use my dnd materials of a world I have created. Yes it has elves and fey creatures, halflings and gnomes. Original my game was designed a character building game dedicated to the advancement of characters stories. Thus, building our community's story. Although im not a huge team of developers, and close friends, I would like to provide an in-depth and artistic role-play for people.

I would be adding that mythical aspect into the role-play. I would like to know what you guys think.

Thanks,
Obsidian Glen

The 5 guilds idea can be easily altered to fit a new scenerio such as the DnD idea you suggested. 5 guilds would be essentially be 5 different factions / Races / Kingdoms or anything of the sort instead of all Pirates.

I also think the DnD idea could be really interesting and might be very appealing to some who liked the original, this could just be another platform in which it is being played out. I've got a few DnD books myself, I can remember how great it felt to create characters and perhaps you could replicate the same style of character creation, using the same or very similar character sheet and advancement methods. I think as a base layout for a server idea using DnD as the backbone would be quite cool, and you can sort of fit anything into it.

Personally I really like mythical Role-Play, it's what I look for when I search for servers to play, or even books and films, so for me fine with it and am more than happy. For me it helps take Role-playing that step further from just being another person in another Earth bound world, with Mythical you can go that step further. :D

Yeah I have decided to go with your idea Streagar. Im going to incorporate mythical rp, with guilds and pirates. Adding some details to the gameplay. Right now im just working on the character creation process.
